About this task

This task focuses on determining the geometric properties of a combined cross-section consisting of polygonal elements with a circular cut-out. Students calculate the cross-sectional area, locate the centroid, determine the centroidal moments of inertia, evaluate the section moduli and radii of gyration, and use the results to construct the ellipse of inertia. The exercise develops practical skills in composite area analysis, application of the parallel-axis theorem, and calculation of section properties required for strength of materials and structural design.
