For the given column, determine the stresses at sections 1-1 and 2-2.
All dimensions are given in mm. The forces are applied at the centers of the corresponding bearing areas.
Axial force at section 1-1, kN (including sign)
Axial force at section 2-2, kN (including sign)
Bending moment about the bending axis at section 2-2, kN·m (absolute value)
Normal stress at section 1-1, MPa (including sign)
Normal stress at the left edge of the column at section 2-2, MPa
Normal stress at the right edge of the column at section 2-2, MPa

About this task

This task examines the stress analysis of a column with a corbel subjected to eccentric loading. Students determine the axial forces at selected sections, calculate the bending moment produced by the applied loads, and evaluate the normal stresses resulting from the combined action of axial compression and bending. The exercise reinforces the principles of eccentric compression, internal force analysis, section properties, and stress distribution in structural members. It is suitable for strength of materials and mechanics courses covering combined loading of engineering components.
