Clamp
SOM-EC-02-EN
The frame of a C-clamp compresses the workpieces with a force of 4000 N. The critical cross-section of the frame is rectangular: $b = 20$ mm, $h = 30$ mm. The distance is $a = 50$ mm.

This is a demonstration task — it isn't graded here. Add your own copy and it will appear under "My personal course" on the student page.
About this task
This task examines the strength analysis of a C-clamp frame under eccentric compression. Students determine the cross-sectional area and section modulus of the rectangular section, calculate the axial force and bending moment at the critical section, and evaluate the maximum and minimum normal stresses caused by the combined loading. The exercise develops skills in eccentric loading analysis, stress calculation, and the application of strength of materials principles to machine components.
